Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 4, 2026
Spyglass ("the App") is a Minecraft Java Edition companion app developed by Beryndil. Your privacy is important to us. This policy explains what data the App collects, how it is used, and your choices.
1. Information We Collect
Game Reference Data. All Minecraft reference data (blocks, items, mobs, recipes, etc.) is stored locally on your device. This data is not personal information.
Camera Access. The App requests camera permission solely for scanning QR codes during Spyglass Connect pairing. No images or video are captured, stored, or transmitted. Camera access is used only for real-time QR code detection and can be denied without affecting other App features.
Analytics & Crash Reports. With your consent, the App may collect anonymous usage analytics and crash reports through Google Firebase (Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics). This data helps us identify bugs and improve the App. It does not include personally identifiable information. You can opt out of analytics at any time in the App's Settings under "Privacy & Data."
Advertising. The App displays ads through Google AdMob. AdMob may collect and use device identifiers and usage data to serve ads in accordance with Google's Privacy Policy. You can choose whether to consent to personalized ads when you first open the App, and change your preference at any time in Settings.
2. Information We Do Not Collect
- We do not collect your name, email address, or any personal contact information.
- We do not collect your location.
- We do not collect photos, videos, or any media from your device.
- We do not access your files, contacts, or other apps.
3. Spyglass Connect
Spyglass Connect allows your phone to communicate with the Spyglass Connect desktop application over your local Wi-Fi network. All communication is encrypted using ECDH key exchange and AES-256-GCM encryption. Data transmitted (inventory, map, etc.) stays on your local network between your devices and is never sent to any external server.
4. Data Sync
The App periodically checks for updated game data from a public GitHub repository (Spyglass-Data). This is a standard HTTPS request and does not transmit any personal information.
5. Third-Party Services
The App uses the following third-party services, each with their own privacy policies:
- Google Firebase (analytics, crash reporting, performance monitoring)
- Google AdMob (advertising)
6. Children's Privacy
The App does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us so we can promptly delete it.
7. Data Security
We take reasonable measures to protect information processed through the App. All network communication with Spyglass Connect uses end-to-end encryption. However, no method of electronic transmission is 100% secure.
8. Your Choices
- Analytics: You can enable or disable analytics and crash reporting in the App's Settings.
- Personalized Ads: You can change your ad personalization preference in the App's Settings.
- Camera: You can deny or revoke camera permission at any time through your device's system settings.
